30 Years and counting

I am humbled, honoured and proud to be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Sotto Sotto.

Years back, when I first mentioned my plans to open a restaurant, many thought I was insane. I did not agree.

I knew it would be challenging. I was a relative newcomer to Toronto from Rome and my English was limited. I was young, a woman entering into a predominantly male industry and a newlywed, hoping to start a family as soon as possible. Perhaps it was the fearlessness and idealism often attached to youth that gave me the confidence to move forward with determination, discounting all the discouraging comments. Whatever it was that fuelled my motivation, I was ready to chase my dreams. I am so happy that I did.

I worked hard, put in long hours, suffered setbacks both personally and professionally but I persevered and for the most part, it was all worth it because I cannot argue with the results.

Fast forward to today, I have a wonderful husband of nearly 29 years, two beautiful children and my Sotto Sotto, that not only managed to beat the odds of survival, buts continues to flourish, thanks to my incredible staff and an amazing clientele. To this day, I refer to Sotto Sotto as my first born child and it was a pretty long labour.

Let me be an example to all who dream a special dream. Work for it, fight for it and don’t let anyone tell you it can’t come true.

I would like to thank my husband and my children for their never ending support, understanding and patience when it comes to my still demanding work schedule.

I also want to thank my Sotto Sotto staff. I couldn’t continue to move forward without you. I appreciate your dedication, loyalty and hard work.

Finally, I want to thank all my customers, many of whom have been coming into Sotto Sotto since I first opened my doors and are now considered part of the family. But whether you are a seasoned regular or a first time diner, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you my simple, rustic home cooking.
